Tappen Zee Bridge, New York/New Jersey

The Tappan Zee Bridge crosses the Hudson River above New York City and is a critical interstate link of I-287 that opened in 1955. The original 6” concrete deck requires regular concrete patch work. USCP HP DOT Repair Mortar and HP Grout 15 are two concrete repair products that have been used patch and repair the bridge deck.

Because downtime on the high volume interstate must be kept to an absolute minimum, and HP DOT Repair Mortar was the contractor’s choice because it:

• achieves 2800 psi in 2 hours and 4300 psi in 24 hrs (ASTM C 109 Modified)
• is durable in demanding conditions
• inhibits corrosion

In addition to the concrete repair to the bridge deck, HP Grout 15 was chosen to grout between newly placed concrete panels because it is:

• very fast setting
• high early strength
• non-shrinking and flowable
